Benchmarking Shows 62% of Franchise Lead Generation Budgets Growing in 2022

December 9, 2021 — In a survey conducted December 1-8, 2021, 61.7% of franchises responding say they expect to spend “more” or “much more” on franchise leads in 2022. Confidence in a better 2022 is seen in franchise systems in all stages of growth. Active U.S. franchises responding to the benchmarking survey hailed from a representative spectrum of categories and system sizes.

“With pervasive vaccines and a favorable business environment, franchises are gearing up for a big year,” said Hunter Stokes, president of Franchise Ventures. “Two years of pent up demand, and a robust pipeline of aspiring franchisees will combine to make 2022 an unparalleled year to invest in the future.”

Plans to maintain or increase spending were strong across emerging, established and large franchise systems, according to a survey across the Franchise Ventures demand-generation platform.

The December 2021 survey by FranchiseInsights.com included active U.S. franchise customers, with franchise systems as high as 6,000 units, and budgets as high as $500,000 for 2021. Nineteen had a zero budget for franchise leads in 2021.

  • Emerging franchises, with fewer than 50 units – 62% plan to increase their budgets in 2022, and only 35% will budget the same or more as this year. 
  • Established franchises, with 50 to 99 units – 58% plan to increase their budgets in 2020, and 86% will budget the same or more than this year. 
  • Large franchise systems, with 100 or more units – 65% plan to increase their budgets in 2022, and 96% will budget the same or more than this year.
